Celebrate the taste and traditions of a warm roast this June with The Roast Collection, taking place at various locations in and around Melbourne.
“Winter’s most comforting dish, the humble roast is once again set to take centre stage with The Roast Collection – a warming celebration of the season’s favourite with a record 100+ events across Victoria throughout the month of June, from the makers of Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.
Now in its fifth year, The Roast Collection pays tribute to Victoria’s bountiful winter produce as some of the state’s top restaurants including Builders Arms Hotel, Flower Drum, Grossi Florentino, Huxtable, mr wolf, San Telmo, The Aylesbury and Virginia Plain, alongside some of Victoria’s finest wineries and
producers, serve up their take on the much-loved roast.
Push the boundaries of the traditional roast and try more unexpected interpretations such as roast alpaca at San Telmo’s 7 Days 7 Animals, or join a New Zealand urban hangi on the banks of the Yarra River at The Common Man.
From Portugal, Italy and Holland to Peru, Argentina and the Middle East, experience roast traditions from across the globe. Travel through Portugal each week at The Post Office Hotel exploring four regional specialties; go ‘vego’ at True South as meat is pushed aside to hero roasted vegetables on Argentina’s Flag Day; uncover Dutch roast traditions at Merricote; taste a slice of Italy at Franco Choo’s with their traditional porchetta; settle in at Rumi for their contemporary Middle Eastern roast; or
try Peruvian wood-fired spiced chicken at Piqueos.
Classic roasts are given a makeover by some of Melbourne’s hottest restaurants with The Builders Arms’ ‘Rotisserie Royale’, Casa Ciuccio’s lamb cooked in a coal pit, Grossi Florentino’s ‘Girarrosto of the Day’, Huxtable’s ‘Meat the Ladies’ featuring top female Victorian producers, and a Shakespearean medieval themed banquet at new venue Saint Crispin’s, among other warming roast events.
With all events toasting the Put Victoria on Your Table philosophy, go straight to the source of the very best seasonal produce with 49 events in regional Victoria. Tahbilk, Fowles and Mitchelton wineries team up for a three-course roast dinner on the river bank; Ellender Estate fires up their wood-fired oven for a classic Beef Wellington; Foxey’s Hangout bring pork and pinot together for a lunch among the barrels, and Mildura Brewery teams slow-roasted lamb shoulder with their desert lager.”
