Scottish distilleries have been producing whisky for centuries and those who are passionate about this spirit know that they do it very well. Highlighting the very best of Scotland’s national drink is the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, on from May 1st to 5th.
The Speyside region in northeast Scotland is home to many historic distilleries and with more than 350 events to enjoy throughout the festival, a merry time will be had by all.
” Held annually during the first long weekend in May, the Festival invites visitors to celebrate Scotland’s national drink through an inventive and wide-ranging programme of whisky-inspired events – some educational, all of them fun.
Since its inception in 1999, the Festival has developed close links with many Speyside businesses and communities as everyone works together to provide an ever-improving range of events, facilities and services for local people and the increasing flow of international visitors.
Playing host to over half the distilleries in Scotland, Speyside has the greatest concentration of malt whiskies producers compared to other whisky producing regions – the Highlands, the Lowlands and the island of Islay. “
