The 17 most anticipated days for foodies in Melbourne have finally arrived: the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival is here.

Running from February 28th until March 16th, the festival begins with the world’s longest lunch – over 1500 guests at a 530-metre-long table. Over 200 events are packed into the 17 days of the festival, and there are even a few free ones to take part in.

“From 28 February – 16 March 2014, Melbourne Food and Wine Festival will celebrate all things water.

Water is 70 percent of the earth’s surface and connects us all. It is the vital source of all living things, the key to life and without it we cease to exist.

Throughout Festival 2014, we will simmer ideas and concepts with some of the best chefs and winemakers in the world, explore the bounty of lakes, ponds and waterways and take brave leaps into the depths of our oceans. We will consider irrigation, discuss what aquaculture means for our future and contemplate hand-diving practices.

The subject of water is as big as the ocean itself so join us across 17 days as we ride each wave, enjoy each story and embrace this precious resource.”
