The city of Palmerston North, New Zealand is hosting the 5th annual Manawatu Wine & Food Festival this weekend. Highlighting wineries and local producers from around the North Island, the festival is open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, June 22nd and 10am to 4pm on Sunday, June 23rd.
“Venue
The 5th Annual Manawatu Wine & Food Festival will be held at the Awapuni Racing & Function Centre Racecourse Road, Palmerston North.
It is the region’s largest purpose-built function complex offering expansive views of the racecourse and towards the Manawatu wind farms.
Visitors
Visitors receive a tasting glass with a holder which they can use to sample free tasting at all the wine maker’s stalls. They are welcome to stay all day sampling various wines and food styles and enjoy lunch as well if they so choose.
This year our celebrity chef is Brett McGregor, New Zealand Masterchef. Brett won the first Masterchef contest held in 2010. He will be running two 45-minute cooking demonstrations (on Saturday only), each featuring a different recipe so that visitors can attend both sessions if they want to. The sessions which start at 11.00am and 1.00pm are free to enter for all ticket holders.
Live music from local musicians and school groups may be played from time to time throughout the day, enhancing the atmosphere of the Wine & Food Festival.
Public Refreshments
A wide variety of food types will be available from the specialty food exhibitors as well as cafe style food and refreshments from the resident caterers. Patrons will be able to use the tables and chairs located along the window viewing areas while enjoying the music and atmosphere of the Wine & Food Festival.
Organisation
The Manawatu Wine & Food Festival is promoted by the Rotary Club of Terrace End. The committee is confident that a winter type festival in a superior location will continue to be an enjoyable experience. Funds raised will be distributed to the club’s community projects.”
