Kiwis may not be as appreciated as their apple, banana, and orange counterparts but one village in South Africa, Haenertsburg, has an entire festival dedicated to this little fruit! The Kiwi Festival, on May 3rd and 4th, will be a kiwi lover’s delight.

” People say that Kiwi tastes almost like green sherbet. Come and celebrate this delicious fruit in the beautiful area of Magoebaskloof, together with the quaint village of Haenertsburg, at the annual Kiwi festival.

This remarkable event will be an awesome experience for the whole family. Loads of fun over the two days will include tours of the kiwi fruit farm, tastings of kiwi fruit and related products as well as talks on how kiwi fruit is grown and their fascinating history (for instance do you know the fruit originally came from China via New Zealand).

Don’t forget to join in the outdoor cooking competition. Contestants will be given a bag of ingredients, including kiwi fruit, and they must prepare a dish in 2 hours. This is great fun to watch and even more fun to taste!

There is a foodie village tour which is a must, food demonstrations, specials at local restaurants, kids entertainment and much more. the country market will have a number of kiwi fruit products to sample and purchase too. While here enjoy the exquisite surroundings and walk through the lovely forests to the dams and waterfalls. “
