Summer has started and it’s time to fire up the barbeque! For lovers of all things grilled and smoky, the town of Frisco, Colorado is the place to be this week as they host the 20th annual Colorado BBQ Challenge. Teams will compete against each other in various categories and sell their barbequed samples and plates on Friday, June 14th and Saturday, June 15th. Live entertainment on the evening of June 13th opens the event.
“This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Colorado BBQ Challenge in Frisco. The event kicks off on Thursday, June 13, with an evening of live music. The BBQ Challenge will run Friday, June 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Approximately 70 BBQ’ers from all over the region will compete for a variety of awards. Teams compete in a wide range of categories including pork, ribs, chicken, brisket, anything goes, barbecue sauce, side dish, salsa and dessert. And of course, each team competes for the coveted Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion titles. You don’t want to miss out on this killer BBQ!
Children also have a chance to participate in the Colorado BBQ Challenge by entering in the Kid’s Q competition. This contest has two age groups; 10 & under and 11-15. Anything goes in this contest, so kids may prepare whatever they like.
Other BBQ favorites include Chef Demonstrations presented on the Viking Stage; Pig Races; a Whiskey Tour (advance registration required); and a variety of musical entertainment.
Back again for its 2nd year is the Bacon Burner 6K. The race will take place Saturday, June 15 at 9:30 a.m. beginning and ending at the Frisco Bay Marina. This fun run is a great way to earn your BBQ!”
